Have your say on proposals to improve the A38

The A38 Major Road Network scheme represents a series of proposed improvements along the A38 for road users including those that cycle, walk, and use bus services. This major scheme is a joint venture between North Somerset Council and Somerset County Council with the majority of funding coming from the Department for Transport.

The proposed improvements are through interventions at numerous locations as shown on plans on this website for the A38 between South Bristol Link (Colliters Way) in North Somerset and Edithmead roundabout at junction 22 of the M5 motorway in Somerset. This route length has a number of junctions where vehicles regularly experience delays due to congestion plus locations with road safety issues. Furthermore, the A38 also acts as a barrier to both cycling and walking journeys. At present, the above issues have adverse impact upon connectivity of local communities, and local businesses having dependency on this strategic route. The A38 improvement proposals would:
  • Better connect local communities by active travel modes
  • Improve journey reliability times along the A38 corridor
  • Improve road safety for all travel modes
  • Provide environmental enhancements and reduce carbon generation from alleviating traffic congestion
  • Support housing delivery and the regional economy with improved transport infrastructure around J22 of the M5 motorway
